Business Advocacy Process

The Blount County Chamber of Commerce provides strong business advocacy on legislation and regulatory issues affecting local businesses. The Blount Chamber is the voice for business at the local, state and federal levels of government. We address issues such as transportation, growth, environmental, workers’ compensation and health care. - See Local Issues and State Regional Issues.

Blount Chamber members now have the opportunity to submit issues for consideration by the Board of Directors and possible action. Do you have a business issue or concern? Go to Members Only and log in and scroll to Business Advocacy Form. The Chamber’s Advocacy Team will review and evaluate all submissions. For additional information, contact Kathy DeLozier at 865-983-2241.

Here’s the process:

  • Chamber member submits an issue for consideration.
  • Chamber staff reviews the issue.
    1. The advocacy review team reviews the issue if the issue is questionable by the staff.
    2. The advocacy review team reviews the issue if there needs to be an immediate response by the Board of Directors before the next scheduled board meeting.
  • Chamber staff emails entire chamber membership to request comments or feedback concerning the issue before the issue is brought forward to the Board of Directors for consideration.
  • Board considers issue and votes to agree or disagree with issue and formulates a position based on the action taken.
  • Chamber staff communicates position adopted by Board of Directors.
